Long-Term Weed Control Where You Don't Want Anything Growing

Tired of constantly fighting weeds in gravel, rock, storage areas, fence lines, or other spaces where vegetation simply isn’t wanted?

Ground sterilization, also known as bare-ground or total vegetation control, uses specialized residual herbicides to kill existing unwanted vegetation and help prevent new weeds and grasses from growing back for an extended period.

Unlike a standard weed treatment that targets weeds currently growing, ground sterilization is designed for areas where the goal is little to no vegetation at all.

Where Ground Sterilization May Be Used

Ground sterilization can be an effective option for certain non-turf areas, including:

Gravel and rock areas/empty landscape beds, fence lines, storage and equipment areas, certain areas around buildings, commercial and industrial properties, and other designated bare-ground areas where vegetation is not desired.

All applications are dependent upon the specific site and the labeled uses and restrictions of the product being applied.

Ground Sterilization Isn't Right for Every Area

This is an important one.

Ground sterilization is non-selective. The treatment cannot distinguish between a weed you don’t want and grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, or other plants you want to keep.

Because residual herbicides can move through soil with rainfall, irrigation, runoff, or soil movement, we take extra care when evaluating where these products should be applied.

Professional Application Matters

Residual herbicides require careful application. Product selection, application rate, soil conditions, surrounding vegetation, drainage, slope, and weather all matter.

At Graczyk Lawn & Landscape, we’ll evaluate the treatment area before recommending ground sterilization. If we believe there is an unreasonable risk of damaging desirable lawn or landscaping, we’ll recommend another option.
